Aim

The boundary needs to be clearly defined so the umpires and player can clearly see when a boundary has been scored.

What’s involved

This can be done in a combination of ways.

1. The basic method is a white line using a line marker, boundary flags can be added at intervals.

2. The preferred method is a rope which makes the ball jump when contact is made; a useful indication of a (four) boundary.

Timing of use

Positioned before a game starts.

Effects of incorrect procedure

A boundary not clearly defined can cause disputes over boundaries being scored.

Try to make the boundary even on both sides of the pitch.

Equipment needed

Line marking equipment, flags and rope.

Practical Tips

If you use a rope try to have a small section that can be lifted to allow the roller to the square.
