Scarification
The pitch should be scarified in the direction of play (to avoid damaging adjacent pitches) to remove dead grass material, remove horizontal growth and to creates groves into which seed can be brushed.
Be sure to scarify through any end repairs to breakthrough compacted/smeared soil that could form a layer in the profile and slow germination. These areas can be hand forked to help create a key for any repair.
Repair Levels
Any large depressions such as foot holes or batter/keeper marks in the pitch should be filled and tamped until level with the surface. They should be tamped sufficiently to prevent excessive sinkage as the soil restructures, but not as hard as a foot hole repair to allow grass germination. Trial and error will get you to the right amount of firming.
