What is it?
A material or mixture which supplies plant nutrients, usually nitrogen, phosphate and potash.
How it’s used:
Normally applied as a granular, powder of liquid.
Timing:
A basic fertiliser is applied every 6 to 8 weeks. Apply when it going to rain or irrigation can be applied.
Effects of incorrect procedure:
Appling in dry weather can scorch the grass. Too much nitrogen in the winter can produce soft, weak growth.
Equipment selection:
Tractor and pedestrian fertiliser spreaders.
Practical tips:
Divide the application rate by two and apply in two directions to ensure good coverage. The use of a control release fertiliser in the spring once growth commences and again in autumn prior to the wet weather is recommended for consideration
